Национальные особенности
Греков отличает горячность, сентиментальность в сочетании с терпимостью. Покачивание головой снизу вверх, в Греции означает "нет", а сверху вниз - "да". По-гречески звук "нэ" означает "да", а отрицание звучит как "охи".
Грекам не свойственна пунктуальность, на деловую встречу они могут опоздать. Греческое "завтра" ("аврио") означает нечто неопределенное или отказ.
В греческом доме не принято снимать обувь. Приглашение в гости не подразумевает обед или ужин.
В период дневного отдыха с 14 до 18 часов и вечером после 22 часов в Греции не принято звонить по телефону.
География
Греческий полуостров, находящийся на юго-востоке Европы, занимает площадь 131.944 кв. км. Греция расположена в южной части Балканского полуострова и на прилегающих к нему и к побережью Малой Азии островах. Граничит с Албанией, Югославией, Болгарией и Турцией. Омывается: Средиземным, Ионическим и Эгейским морями. В состав Греции входит около тысячи островов, на которые приходится почти 20% всей страны. Территория Греции разделена на три части. В материковую Грецию входят: Македония - северная область Греции, граничащая с Албанией, Болгарией и бывшей Югославией (Кастория, Халкидики); Фракия - северо-восточная область, граничащая с Болгарией и Турцией (Александрополь, Комотини); Эпир - северо-западная область, граничащая с Албанией (омывается Ионическим морем); Тессалия - наиболее равнинная область, с востока омывается Эгейским морем (Лариса, Волос, Трикала); Центральная Греция - центральная часть Греции (Халкида, Ламия, Амфисса); Аттика - область вокруг Афин; Пеллопонес - самый большой полуостров Греции (площадь - 21,4 тыс. кв. км ), соединен с материковой частью узким Коринфским перешейком (ширина 5 км), через который в конце 19 века был прорыт канал (длина 6500 м, ширина 23,5 м, глубина 40 м). Третий район образуют острова Эгейского моря: Эвбея - второй по величине, после Крита, остров Греции (3,9 тыс.кв.км), соединенный с континентом мостом; Лесбос - один из крупных островов Греции (1,6 тыс.кв.км); Северные Спорады - острова Скирос, Скопелос, Юра, Илиодрамия и др. в северо-западной части Эгейского моря; Киклады - "киклос" по-гречески образующий кольцо, архипелаг в центральной и южной части Эгейского моря (острова Аморгос, Андрос, Сифнос, Санторини, Тимос, Китнос и др.); Южные Спорады - Додеканес - архипелаг из 12 островов в юго-восточной части Эгейского моря, у побережья Турции (острова Родос, Самос, Астипалея, Калимнос, Карпатос, Лерос и др.).
Греческий ландшафт - это чередование скалистых, обычно безлесных гор, густонаселенных долин, многочисленных островов, проливов и бухт. Живописные скалы, пляжи, экзотические гроты предоставляют огромные возможности для отдыха на море и горного туризма. Широкое распространение известняков, особенно в западной части страны, привело к формированию карстовых воронок, пещер, придающих ландшафту своеобразный дикий облик и привлекающих любителей испытать свои силы в спелеологии. Горные массивы занимают почти четверть поверхности территории страны. Это преимущественно средневысотные горы (до 1200-1800 м). Высшая точка Греции - гора Олимп (2917 м). Выше 2000 метров поднимаются также Пинд, Парнас, горная цепь на севере Пелопоннеса и Тайгет. Равнин мало, сосредоточены они в восточной части страны, за исключением Пелопоннесса, где равнины преобладают на западном побережье. Под лесом и кустарником около 44% территории. Национальные паpки: Викос-Аоос, Микpа-Пpесна, Эта и дp. Совершая прогулки в горах, необходимо помнить, что в Греции много пресмыкающихся (черепахи, ящерицы и змеи, в их числе - рогатая гадюка).
На узком и гористом Греческом полуострове не могли образоваться большие речные системы. Преобладают горные реки, короткие, бурные, с живописными порогами и водопадами, часто текущие к морю в узких каньонах. Самая длинная река Греции - Альякмон (почти 300 км). Другие крупные реки - Эброс, Нестос, Стримон, Вардар, Ахелоос. Реки не пригодны для судоходства, но играют довольно большую роль как источники энергии.
В Греции насчитывается свыше 20 озер площадью 10-100 км2. Самые крупные и глубокие из них тектонического происхождения. К ним принадлежат озера Трихонис (95,5 км2), Волви (75,6 км2), Вегоритис (72,5 км2). Много карстовых озер. Они, как правило, небольшие, питаются в основном подземными водами. Крупнейшее из них - Янина (22 км2).
Климат
Греция входит в средиземноморскую климатическую зону, летом здесь почти нет дождей, зато зимой проходят сильные ливни. Средняя температура воды летом - +27 С. Самое благоприятное время для поездки в Грецию - конец марта - середина июня или начало сентября - конец октября.
Население:
Согласно переписи 2001 года Грецию населяют около 11 млн. человек., 4 млн. греков живут за границей. В Греции проживает много выходцев из соседней Албании, Болгарии, а также из стран СНГ. Средняя продолжительность жизни - 79 лет.
Язык
Языком общения является новогреческий язык, более упрощенный и развившийся из древнегреческого. Настоящий древнегреческий язык используется как официальный, для "высокой прессы", документов и протоколов. Знание древнегреческого говорит о хорошем происхождении и образованности. Большинство греков прекрасно говорят на иностранных языках (как правило, это английский и немецкий), также употребляется итальянский и французский. Правда, чем дальше вглубь, тем меньше шансов встретить человека на улице знающего иностранные языки. Это касается и таксистов, и официантов, и продавцов в магазинах и пр. Лучше всего иметь разговорник.
Религия
97% населения исповедуют официальную религию страны - православное христианство. Греки - глубоко верующий народ. В Греции множество древних и современных церквей, скромных часовен и тихих монастырей. При посещении подобных мест не так строги оказываются правила в выборе одежде, как в манере поведения. Так, вы можете появиться в храме в шортах, но там вам не стоит смеяться или громко разговаривать. Именно в Греции находится Святая Гора Афон, где в кельях и монастырях веками живут монахи всех православных стран мира.
Валюта
Евро (EURO). В обороте банкноты номиналом в 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 и 500 евро, а также монеты номиналом в 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 и 50 центов.
Обмен валюты
Банки работают с понедельника по четверг с 8:00 до 14:00, в пятницу - с 8:00 до 13.30. По выходным и национальным праздникам банки закрыты. Обмен валюты производится и в обменных пунктах (по менее выгодному курсу, чем в банках). Для безналичных форм расчетов повсеместно используются кредитные карточки (Visa, American Express, Diners Club), а также Travellers Cheques; проблем со снятием наличных не возникает. Уличные банкоматы работают круглосуточно.
Виза
Для въезда в Грецию необходимо иметь: визу, загранпаспорт, медицинскую страховку, валюту (из расчета $50 на человека в день). Визы оформляются консульским отделом посольства Греции в Москве.

Таможенные правила
В соответствии с греческими таможенными правилами беспошлинно разрешены к ввозу все личные вещи (одежда, туристское снаряжение и т.п.), продукты питания и напитки весом до 10 кг, сигареты - 300 шт. или равное количество табака, крепкие спиртные напитки - 1,5 л или десертные вина - 2 л; игральные карты не более 2 колод (на игральные карты, как и на спички, в Греции введена государственная монополия). Разрешается ввозить фотоаппарат и фотопленку, либо видеокамеру и пленку к ней; бинокль, музыкальный инструмент небольшого размера, аудио- и видеоаппаратуру, велосипед, спортивное снаряжение.
Запрещены к ввозу наркотики, лекарства (кроме ограниченного количества препаратов, предписанных врачом), антиквариат, взрывчатые вещества, оружие.
Для консультаций по поводу специфических ограничений, относящихся к импорту и экспорту животных, растений, а также специфических предметов (например: петард, художественных изделий и антиквариата), следует обратиться в греческое посольство, консульство или в ближайшую туристическую организацию.
Транспорт
Вся материковая часть Греции опоясана автобусными маршрутами. Если поездка в оба конца укладывается в одни сутки, то дешевле сразу купить билет туда и обратно. Национальные железные дороги "OSE" связывают основные города материковой части Греции. Для одиноких женщин путешествие по автомобильным дорогам автостопом не рекомендуется. На автомобильных дорогах Греции самая высокая аварийность со смертельным исходом среди стран Европейского Союза. Необходимо проявлять осторожность. Билеты на автобус продаются на конечных остановках и газетных киосках. Стоимость одной поездки - около 0,3 долл. США. Если предстоит много поездок, то предпочтительнее купить месячный проездной. Если пассажир стоит на остановке и видит приближающийся автобус нужного ему маршрута, он должен голосовать, иначе водитель не остановится. При следовании пассажира в автобусе и приближении его к нужной остановке пассажир должен нажать на кнопку около двери. Названия остановок обычно не обновляются.
Такси - самый удобный вид транспорта для передвижения по городу, так как автобусная сеть в городах недостаточно развита. В крупных городах Греции рекомендуется пользоваться такси, так как узкие улицы и огромное количество машин создают пробки на дорогах, и к тому же следует быть осторожными, греки очень любят быструю езду, но не всегда соблюдают правила дорожного движения. Оплата производится строго по счетчику, в ночное время действует двойной тариф. В Афинах такси окрашены в желтый цвет, а в Салониках - в сине-белый.
В Греции распространено также паромное сообщение. Этот вид транспорта соединяет все острова. Паромы достаточно комфортабельны для переезда, часто их сопровождают дельфины.

Связь
Во всех крупных городах имеются переговорные пункты. Можно звонить из гостиничного номера, но это значительно дороже. Удобнее и дешевле звонить с уличного телефона-автомата (карточку можно купить в киосках, торгующих газетами, водой, мороженым и т.д.).

Также как и в России, для международных звонков в Греции активно используют карточки IP-телефонии. Одна из наиболее качественных в этом отношении - компания Интерконнект, которая обслуживает абонентов на трех языках: русском, греческом и английском. Карточки Интерконнект продаются в центре крупных городов и в туристических центрах. Если вам нужен интернет - пользуйтесь интернет-кафе, которые есть почти в каждом городе. Стоимость одного часа - около $3.
Покупки и магазины
В Греции можно купить всё, что угодно. В магазинах одежды и обуви есть большой выбор товаров местного производства и всемирно известных марок. В сентябре-октябре, январе-феврале и апреле-мае устраиваются распродажи. Это приятная возможность сделать выгодные покупки. В Греции цены на большинство товаров ниже, чем в других странах Западной Европы, исключение составляют электроника, электротехника, легковые автомобили. Магазины беспошлинной торговли имеют вывеску: "Hellenic Duty Free Shop".
Изделия местных мастеров (керамика, сумки, сандалии, ковры, вышивка, полудрагоценные камни - все ручной работы) являются традиционными сувенирами. Греция специализируется на оливковом масле, оливках, сырах, сухофруктах, чае, греческом кофе. Традиционные алкогольные напитки - коньяк "Метакса", а также "Оузо" и "Раки". В Афинах, в пассаже на ул. Панепистимиу и в магазине Музед Бенаки можно купить золотые украшения Золотаса - единственного греческого ювелира, которому разрешено создавать копии украшений из музеев. В Касторье находится всемирно известный центр по производству шуб, секреты мастерства передаются из поколения в поколение уже на протяжении 5 веков подряд. При покупке шубы необходимо получить два товарных чека. В чеках должна быть указана фамилия и имя покупателя, наименование изделия и его стоимость. Шубу целесообразнее покупать на крупной фабрике или в магазинах. В этом случае при отъезде из Греции не будет осложнений на таможне.
Магазины открыты с понедельника по пятницу с 9.00 до 20.30, перерыв на обед в летнее время - с 13.00 до 17.00. Крупные супермаркеты и туристические магазины работают без перерыва и выходных. В супермаркетах цены фиксированные, а в маленьких лавках и на базарах можно торговаться. Сигареты, газеты, сладости, прохладительные напитки, а также наиболее употребимые лекарства покупайте в киосках (по-гречески - "Периптэро") - они, как правило, работают допоздна.
Здоровье
Аптеки в Греции можно найти по специальному знаку - зеленый или красный крест на белом фоне. Часы работы - с 10.00 до 20.00, перерыв на обед в летнее время - с 13.00 до 17.00. По субботам и воскресеньям, а также в праздники, открыты только дежурные аптеки, они работают круглосуточно. Адреса дежурных аптек можно узнать в единой справочной службе. В случае острого недомогания надо вызывать скорую помощь, а не искать ближайшую больницу.
Пляжи
99% приморских (95% речных и озёрных) пляжей Греции отвечают самым строгим экологическим параметрам стран Европейского Сообщества. Будьте внимательны при купании в море. Обращайте внимание на специальные флаги, вывешиваемые на большинстве пляжей:
красный флаг - купание запрещено;
жёлтый флаг - волнение на море, будьте осторожны;
зелёный флаг или белый флаг - море спокойно, купание безопасно.
Нежелательно находиться в обеденное время на пляже, можно обгореть или получить солнечный удар.
Размещение
В Греции туристам предлагаются комнаты в частных домах, отдельные квартиры. Молодежь может останавливаться в кемпингах. В отелях помимо объявленной стоимости номера в счет включается НДС (по гречески - ФПА), равный 8% и коммунальные налоги (4%). Если номер снимается на 1-2 дня, то плата увеличивается на 10%. В отелях может быть шумно. Если один человек снимает двухместный номер, он оплачивает 80% его стоимости. В стоимость номера, как правило, включен завтрак.
Категории отелей. В Греции существует своя, отличная от европейской, классификация отелей. Отелям присваивается не "звездность", а категории. Считается, что европейским 5* соответствует греческая категория De Luxe, 4* - категория A, 3* - категория B, 2* - C. Присвоением категорий отелям занимается специальная организация, но официального классификатора, описывающего необходимый набор услуг и сервиса для той или иной категории, не существует.
Национальная кухня
Греческая еда вкусна и разнообразна. Рыба здесь - настоящий деликатес. Любимы греками барабулька, султанка, хамса, кефаль, ловят здесь и камбалу. Ценятся омары, лангусты. Осьминог - традиционное и сравнительно недорогое блюдо рыбных таверн.
Еще одним излюбленным блюдом является мясо молодого барашка. Чаще всего баранье ребрышки жарят на вертеле, или используют гриль, или же запекают в духовке. Едят греки и другие виды мяса и птицы - говядину, свинину, цыплят. Блюда из них вы найдете в гриль-ресторанах или в шашлычных. Множество блюд готовится из мясного фарша: судзукакья (что-то вроде люля-кебаба), котлеты, рубленые бифштексы, капустные голубцы, пастицьо - запеканка из мяса и макарон.
Супов, как правило, не едят, но все же делают чечевичную похлебку, фасолевый суп, рыбный суп.
Большое место в рационе занимают фрукты и овощи: апельсины, помидоры, огурцы, перец, оливки и маслины. В греческой кухне присутствует множество овощных блюд: плов со шпинатом, капустой или луком-пореем, овощные рагу, артишоки, довольно много блюд из бобовых - разных видов фасоли, чечевицы, гороха, нута.
Чрезвычайно популярны пироги с различными начинками. Пирог с сыром, например, можно купить практически везде, и чаще всего греки перекусывают именно им. Пекут пирожки со шпинатом и сыром, с пореем, тыквой, мясом, курятиной и т.д. Овощи и мясо готовят с использованием томатного соуса и большого количества оливкового масла. Кроме того, греки любят разного рода макароны (больше всего - с жареным мясным фаршем). Самые характерные греческие сладости: кадаифи, баклавас, галактобуреко. Их делают из слоеного теста и поливают сиропом. Кроме того, в греческих кондитерских вы найдете любые виды пирожных, кроме сладких кремов и мороженого. Еще один излюбленный греческий десерт, который можно заказать во многих ресторанах и тавернах, - это йогурт с медом.
В Греции распространено кофе. Вы можете заказать греческий кофе "гликос" (очень сладкий), "метриос" (не очень сладкий), "скетос" (кофе без сахара) или холодный кофе ("кафе фрапэ").
Где поесть: Таверны - здесь вам предложат вкусную еду, "стиатрио" - ресторан, более нарядный и чистый, чем таверна, с рядами накрытых скатертями столов и более высокими ценами; "псистари"- ресторан (шашлычная), который специализируется на приготовлении ягнят, поросят или цыплят на вертеле; "псаро-таверна", специализирующаяся на рыбе; "узери" - пивная, где подают также и закуски; "гирос" - бутербродная с круглыми сандвичами и "сувлазитико", где кормят салатами.

Мелидзаносалата - баклажанная икра: запеченные баклажаны, лук или чеснок, лимонный сок или уксус, масло;
Греческий салат - деревенское блюдо из крупнолистового салата, помидоров, огурцов, зеленого перца, лука, греческого сыра-феты (брынзы), душицы и маслин;
Долма - голубцы из виноградных листьев, риса и трав (мяты, петрушки, укропа). Подается с лимонно-яичным соусом;
Такос - сухой хлеб с соусом из свежих помидоров, соли и большого количества оливкового масла;
Йемиста - помидоры, перцы или баклажаны, фаршированные рисом с травами (с мясным фаршем или без);
Стифадо - тушеное мясо (говядина, печень, кролик и т.д.) с большим количеством лука;
Авголемоно - куриный бульон, заправленный яйцом и лимоном.
Напитки: Существует огромное разнообразие греческих вин. Одно из характерных греческих вин - рецина, имеющее специфический смолистый аромат. Из белых виноградных вин стоит попробовать Chateau Matsas, Tsandali, Aghioritiko, Dtrofilia; из розовых - Tsandali, Calligas; из красных - Naoussa Boutari, Hadjimihali, Chateau Karras. Из крепких напитков наиболее известны узо - анисовая водка на виноградном спирту и раки - виноградная водка. Существуют рестораны под названием узери, в которых подают именно эту выпивку - с разнообразными закусками. В Греции вы найдете также и все виды пива, как иностранного, так и местного производства.

Если Вы хотите дать чаевые официантам - обычно они составляют 5-10% от суммы заказа, но это - исключительно добрая воля клиента.
